Whitehall- With an abbreviated pre-season with only one scrimmage, Zephyrs coach Brian Gilbert was eager and anxious to see how his squad would respond in their opening game against Pocono Mountain East Friday night in some oppressive heat of the evening.
“I was pleased for the most part with their performance tonight. Of course there is always room for improvement. We need to clean some things up in the special teams area. We missed a couple extra points,” Gilbert stated after his team drubbed the Cardinals 46-0.
QB Zach Gilbert threw for 220 yards on 13 completions adding two scores via the airwaves and rushing for another. Dez Boykins had 77 yards receiving and two scores. One on a 41 yard run, the other on the receiving end of a 65 yard pass from Gilbert.
Whitehall jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. Tavion George opened the scoring on a 42-yard jaunt. After Boykin’s run, Ryan Klaugh picked off an errant pass and scored from 40 yards out. Jackson Buskirk added a 36-yard reception to end the quarter.
Backup QB Ethan Pavel closed out the scoring in the contest on a four-yard run. Whitehall now turns their attention to a EPC South matchup with Emmaus next Friday.
