@Marcus well then I guess the staff at EasternPAFootball doesn’t know how to compare QB’s either. Go check out their All State teams.
By the way, if you are saying that the only measure of a QBs value/skill is how far they go in the state playoffs I think that’s pretty short sighted. There is much more that goes into how good a player is than how far his team goes. Always has been; always will be. Much in the same light, the best team doesn’t always have the best players.
Either way, I’ll assume you’ll take the Clariton QB over Fegley then, right? I mean, he went home with the trophy, whereas Fegley did not. By your logic, that makes him better.
@Tej: Since you don’t seem to know how to compare 2 QBs, here is your answer:
Fegley- State Finalist
Long- watching from the stands
Never seen either team play, but there is your answer…Fegley led his squad to Hershey
From the stats I have seen, Long looks to be decent but Fegley got the job done
For all you Long vs Fegley contributors… it’s really quite simple to decide who is more deserving…
if you had both of them on your team, with the option of only starting one at qb – which would you choose?
Having seen both play, Long would easily get the nod. Outside of the kid’s ability to throw the ball he also runs quite effectively. Any of you SCA supporters would be hard pressed to convince me that Fegley is a better quarterback than Long. In fact, I think you’d be hard pressed to convince anyone who has seen them both play that Long is not better than Fegley.
Just my humble opinion, though.
@ jake lol you have no clue first off we didnt even play bok or dobbins and didnt bok almost beat west catholic in city title?
But he does have the ALL-TIME SINGLE SEASON PASSING RECORD for philly pub regardless and next year he might just break brett gordons city record!
We got pennsbury week two next year how does that sound?
@JAKE HE IS MY PLAYER OF THE YEAR
@jake great post but he is
@ Little Guys Coach: Dude you really need to get a life!! Break away from your computer!! Go outside get a breath of fresh air. Constantly promoting your son on these message boards, you are shameless. The Philly Public league is slop!! Frankford’s Varsity couldn’t beat most PCL JV teams. Great stats agains teams like BOK and Dobbins?? Give me a break!! Eastern PA staff, can you please make a rule that Father’s cannot nominate their own sons??
Offensive….Central Dauphin #1 Zayd Issah (athlete) 6’4″ 210 – 1345 rush yds, 6 yds per carry, 20 rushing TDs, 649 yds rec, 23.18 per catch, 10 receiving TDs.
brian…you are correct, I forgot that SCA still had starters in. I do know that they had backup linebackers in the 4th qtr and Moore was out at d-end, but they still had the starting secondary in(SCA’s secondary was weak all season long), and you’re also correct with the way Long started he looked to be on pace for about 500 yds passing but the SCA D settled in and contained him for most of the rest of the game…like I said before the kid is a solid football player but it’s not that hard to have his stats against that type of competition when throwing the ball 30-plus times a game…if SCA played a schedule like that (in SCA’s area that would be like vo-tech, milton, bucktail, muncy, warrior run, etc) Fegley would of had the same stats with a better completition percentage most likely and Levan and Moore would each of had about 300 more rushing yards
Long plays the worst schedule in Pa. However when he is at Nazareth next year we’ll see if he does the same stuff.
I never said SCA wasn’t clearly better, I was responding to your comment about Long gettting a lot of his stats against SCAs backups. The backups didn’t really play much in that game and most of Long’s stats came in the first half so it was against the SCA starters. I didn’t question his season stats, I was just stating how inaccurate you are regarding his stats in the SCA game. I know they play in a very weak conference.
r.e.k.: Southern scored 55 points against Pius so I think you are off on your stat & Bucktail also went Eastern Conference because they were scared that SCA would beat them by 70 in the playoffs
Just a fan & HSfan: thank you, I could of said scipio too but I just feel that Fegley, Long, Gulyas, Clay, Willaims, & Nosovitch are clear cut without any question All-Stars
brian…i was there too and SCA was clearly better, Long’s stats were very impressive this year but can’t be looked at too closely because Pius X probably plays the easiest schedule in all of PA at any of the 4 levels…they only played like 1 team all season that even had a winning record before the playoffs…SCA plays 8 of 10 games every year against playoff participants
Central Dauphins #60 Nate Hamilton DE/OLB 6’1″ 200
118 TT, 27.5 TFL, 13 Sacks, 7 PD, 1 FF, 1 FR for a TD, 4 Blocked Punts, 2 Blocked Field Goal
His stats are nuts but his contribution to CDs defensive sucess was priceless. He served as a pass rusher, dropped to the flat and covered TEs like Adam Brennamen man to man.
@kyle i can agree with that i would also throw scipio in the WR mix he probably runs better routes and has slightly better hands then gulyas just not as explosive with his speed, long plays in a pretty bad conference, put him in the LVC i dont think he has those numbers
We sure can agree on that! They are all special players.
Just to clarify something, the halftime score was 29-25 so he had to have good numbers for them to have 4tds! As you said it doesn’t matter, I feel they are both deserving of the POY Award.
Just so you know Kyle, I was at that game and SCA starters were pretty much on the field most of the game. They may have gone out late in the 4th if they did. Pius actually led 19-7 at one point and was only trailing 29-25 at halftime. SCA held them scoreless in the 2nd half to win 55-25. Most of Long’s stats if not all of them came against the SCA starters.
Bruce Ransom as coach of the year. bucktail has the smallest school in the state with a football team. they field only 29 players.any school that they play is larger than them and they manage to go
8-1 in regular season. only loss to piusx in which they scored more points than any other team against pius. he has to at least be on the short list!
I think this could settle the arguement…regardless of who gets POY…Fegley, Long, Gulyas, Clay, Willaims, & Nosovitch should all certainly make the All-Star Team…can we all agree on that?
half of the yards he had came on SCA’s backups…don’t get me wrong the kid is a very good player but not player of the year good
I had to go back a check, but Long did put up almost 400 total yards on SC. So if he did that on a State finalist wouldn’t you expect him to rack up yards on lesser competition?
I don’t really follow Southern or Pius but I would have to give the edge to Fegley over Long…Fegley did it all when they played Pius and SCA pounded Pius, plus Long’s stats can’t be taken too seriously because they play probably the weakest schedule in the state and that is why Fegley and company destroyed them in the State playoffs
Kevin gulyas- broke every state Receiver record…2,000 yards receiving…that’s only happened 6 times in US history…..
Fegley is a nice player but he shouldn’t be named Player of the year. Look what AJ Long did at Pius X and Roman Clay is a beast at Lancaster Catholic.
David Williams at West Catholic is a tremendous back too.
thats fine you are saying eastern player of the year but the award is going to the player of the year in the state. As for coach Central Dauphin is geographically in the east but they play in the west so their coach would be my pick regardless. I am not saying anything negative about Fegley but one stat doesn’t automatically win him the award. 0 int’s is very impressive and playing on defense and doing well is awesome too. If you are picking for the east, that is fine, I won’t argue that, but this discussion is for the state.
To brian. I’s agree with Boyd but this is for Eastern PA not Western that is why I would go with Fegley & Roth…you could also debate that Lancaster Catholic’s coach deserves consideration as well, but they had an easier road in AA I feel…Fegley was just unbelievably good this season. He will probably be the only QB in PA history to ever play both QB & LB in a 16 game season while excelling at both and never throwing an INT…that is such a crazy stat and deserves to be considered
I would agree with Roth if SCA would’ve beat Clairton. As for Fegley, I’m not sure why people are saying player of the year. He had a very good year, but there are several players who I would put ahead of him and Tyler Boyd is one that stands above the rest. The reason I don’t say Roth is you could make arguments his playcalling is one of the reasons they lost both their games. SCA was up 2 scores on MCA with less than 10mins left and lost because he stayed in man to man coverage knowing MCA had to pass. In the Clairton game, after Clairton scored to make it 27-19 and SCA recovered a fumble around the Clairton 35 with 4 minutes left. He went to 4 straight passes. There was plenty of time left to run, especially the inside reverse which was gaining good yardage.
SCA should be honored for both awards:
Player of the Year: Brad Fegley
Coach of the Year: Jim Roth
Fegley was selected today as the News-Item MVP which is a great honor considering the teams the paper covers (Southern Columbia- State Finalist, Mount Carmel- District 4 AA Champions, Shamokin- District 4 AAA Champions, Line Mountain- District 4 A Runner-Up, & North Schuykill- playoff team)
Hands down Tyler Boyd is Class A player of the year.
Robert Bennie of Stroudsburg High School. 3000 total yards of Offense, 27 total tds, MVC and Pocono Record player of the year. One of the Best FS in that state of Pennsylvania.
Brad Fegley QB/LB for Southern Columbia
Offense: 20 total TDs & 0 INTs all season
Defense: all over the field
Led the Tigers to first State Championship game since 2006
Very deserving of Small School Player of the Year!
Tim DiGiorgio Frankford QB 136-237 2,357 yds and 30 touchdowns
Vince Bedesem for his consistency that he has started and for the first state semi-final run in school history! Since 2008/2009 where the Golden Hawks were upset and left one game short of the play-offs, he took a program where they had only one winning season before that, after making it for the first time in school history and losing to state semi-finalist Ridley, they’ve made it a step further each year and now he has made them into a D1/Suburban One power house. Every year they graduate a decent amount of seniors and then they still put together a strong lineup and team. Just my thought but congratulations on doing what you did for this program. Hats off to you and your staff
i believe dunmore stumbled once, lost 5 fumbles that led to a 1 point upset, otherwise i think they would have reached the single A state final.they crushed teams while mostly playing the 2nd team most of the 3rd and 4th qtrs.they should be ranked higher.also austin seamon deserves consideration for small school player of the year.he carried the ball much fewer times because of the blowouts, and also sharing time with dunmore’s other fine tailback daiquon buckley.in addition he only carried the ball 3 times vs carbondale-4 times against honesdale-10 times against montrose.these are games he could have piled up big numbers, like other backs did,but dunmore does not run up big scores if avoidable. he averaged over 9 yds. per carry-played strong safety on one of the top defenses and also ran back kickoffs on the rare occasion he was kicked to.(1 kickoff returned for touchdown. 12-22-11 11:03pm
Ryan Zapoticky Junior QB at Dallas great season. Shane Dunn Senior WR great season as well.
I believe Mike Ricci from Garnet Valley should get serious consideration for Coach of the Year. After completely embarrasing losses to Strath Haven and Ridley and not making playoffs for the first time since 2005 the previous year, GV was all, but written off for this 2011 season. Even after the embarssing loss to Unionville at the beginning of this year, Ricci made his players believe in him and themselves and they went on to beat Ridley twice and make the 3rd round of the PIAA playoffs. I know that most of the coaches that had their teams in the championship games will be more considered, but Ricci is someone to not ignore.

Sorry LaSalle started 15 new players not 5.
Coach of Year is Central Daughin s coach or Beck from NP, he brought his team back after early losses. I think the kid from LaSalle Wade had a great year carrying that team. He finished with almost 1600 yds and 22 scores. They started 5 new players on the team and were 1 step away from Hershey for 3 rd straight year. He willed them to win against Nazareth with receiving and rushing for 250 yds. If your team is based on HS season and not some future projection on college than it would be hard to find a netter or tougher all around player.
What about the Pius X QB, he had over 4,600 yds total offense and 63tds if maxpreps is correct! That’s leads the state.
I think Central Dauphins coach should be the coach of the year. Nobody had expected them to win a state title.
Charles Sweigert, from Lancaster Catholic. The WR/DB had over 900 yards receiving, 9 interceptions, with two pick sixs
