HERSHEY -Woodland Hills running back Miles Sanders (Penn State recruit), who’s ranked the No. 1 running back in the nation by 247sports.com dazzled the fans Saturday night with seven carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns and added a 21-yard touchdown catch on his way to earning Most Valuable Player honors.
Pennsylvania went on to win the 59th annual Big 33 Football Classic, 26-14.
Pennsylvania’s first offensive play was a Devante Cross, 21-yard touchdown pass to Miles Sanders who made an amazing over the shoulder catch.
The running attack tonight was led by a pair of Woodland Hills’ running backs. Sanders rushed for 73 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns and Jo-El Shaw led PA with 80-yards on 14 carries and a score. The pair each scored a touchdown in the second quarter and PA led 19-0 at halftime.
Sanders added his third touchdown of the night, a 19-yard run in the third quarter.
Maryland added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Dae’lun Darien caught a 35-yard pass from Shawn Bliss and Martin Foray Jr. intercepted a Ryan Stover pass and went 62 yards for the score.
Cross finished the night passing for 70 yards on 4 of 9 and one touchdown. Upper Dublin’s Ryan Stover completed 4 of 7 for 52 yards. Clairton’s Aaron Mathews led PA with five catches for 89 yards.
Maryland has lost three of the last four meetings and Pennsylvania improved to 10-2 in the series.
